Choose between managed share/presentation links and a permanent live website address, then update, take offline, or connect a domain on the correct publishing surface.
Where: Designer → Share & export → link manager or live-site section.
Key ideas
- Managed links are not the permanent site: The link manager can maintain multiple site and presentation links. Each row has its own name, URL, publish state, update/offline actions, and removal. Presentation links are available only when the project has presentation beats/stops.
- The live site has its own address lifecycle: The permanent live-site section publishes the website to a stable Flowmo subdomain; a custom domain can be connected after there is a site target. Update and Take offline act on that live site, not on every share link.
- Update and offline preserve identity: Updating an existing managed link republishes to its existing target. Taking a site or link offline does not mean deleting the project; republishing can reuse its address.
Steps
- Open Share & export and decide whether you need a review/share destination, a presentation-specific URL, or the permanent website.
- In the link manager choose Add site link or Add presentation link. Name each destination so collaborators can distinguish audiences or versions.
- Publish the selected row, then use Copy/rename/update/offline/remove actions on that same row. A presentation link requires presentation beats or slide stops.
- For a public website address, use the live-site section and publish the site first. Review the reported plan/hosting implications before continuing.
- After first publish, connect a custom domain from the live-site domain control and complete the displayed DNS setup.
- Use Update live site to replace published content. Use Take offline when the public site should stop serving; republish to bring it back.
- Open each URL in a separate session and test the real public output, routes, assets, responsive behavior, and permissions.
Link manager actions
- Add site link
- Add presentation link when presentation stops/beats exist
- Rename a row and copy its URL
- Publish, update, publish again, or take a row offline
- Remove a managed link without deleting the Designer project
Permanent live site
- Publishes the multi-page site through the site publishing path.
- Uses a Flowmo subdomain as the initial stable address.
- Allows connecting a custom domain after the site target exists.
- Update live site replaces its published output; Take offline leaves the project and address relationship available for republishing.
- Custom-domain DNS records are shown by the domain flow; do not guess them.
Tips
- Use a managed link for a specific review/presentation destination and the permanent site for the canonical website.
- Keep staging/review destinations named, and verify which one a button will copy before sending it externally.
Limitations and important notes
- A link being published does not verify its content or permissions; open and test the destination.
- Custom domains require DNS changes outside Designer.
- Publishing is an external action and may incur hosting costs; review the current UI’s terms/pricing before confirming.
Troubleshooting
Add presentation link is unavailable.
Add or configure presentation beats/stops first; presentation-only links are gated on a presentable sequence.
I updated the share link but the permanent site did not change.
These are different targets. Update the managed row and the live-site section separately as needed.
