Choose whether the wheel moves the document or workspace, fit the artboard reliably, and pan at every zoom without fighting menus or nested scroll areas.
Where: Designer stage → zoom control → Page | Canvas and Fit / zoom percentage.
Key ideas
- Page and Canvas are explicit wheel modes: Page makes normal wheel input scroll rendered content. Canvas makes it pan the workspace around the artboard. Dialogs, menus, and independently scrollable panels still keep their own wheel input.
- Panning works at every zoom: The stage can pan when zoomed in, at 100%, or zoomed out. In Page mode, Space-drag or dragging beside the page pans without changing modes.
- Fit is a view calculation: Fit computes zoom and position for the current available stage. It does not resize the document, device, or aspect ratio.
Steps
- Choose Page when the wheel or trackpad should move through a long webpage or document.
- Choose Canvas when the wheel or trackpad should move the workspace around a fixed or zoomed artboard.
- In Page mode, hold Space and drag—or drag beside the page—to reposition the stage.
- Choose Fit to bring the whole current page or artboard into view.
- Choose 50%, 100%, or 200% for exact inspection, then pan to the intended region.
- Scroll directly over an open menu, dialog, or list so that surface receives the wheel.
- Return to Page before testing scroll-driven page behavior.
Page mode
- Wheel scrolls page content
- Space + drag pans
- Dragging beside the page pans
- Best for long pages and scroll interactions
Canvas mode
- Wheel pans the stage
- Option scrolling can reach the page when needed
- Best for fixed artboards and close placement work
Zoom choices
- Fit
- 50%
- 100%
- 200%
- Panning remains available at every level
Tips
- Use Fit after changing page type, aspect, dock width, or window size.
- Test a long delivered page in Page mode and placement details in Canvas mode.
Limitations and important notes
- The switch changes only local navigation, not the document or collaborator view.
- An active nested iframe or interactive element can own pointer input.
- Fit prioritizes full visibility, not a comfortable editing scale.
Troubleshooting
Scrolling moves the canvas instead of the page.
Switch the stage control to Page.
I cannot pan in Page mode.
Hold Space while dragging or begin the drag beside the page.
The stage moves when I meant to scroll a menu.
Place the pointer directly over the open menu or scrollable surface.
