Browse a Brain record, inspect its fields and references, preview supported media, then add a specific record part to the Flowgen canvas or copy text when that is the better fit.
Where: Flowgen canvas → Brain/Library → open a record; or Dashboard → Brain → open a record and use its available record actions.
Before you start
- A Brain record visible in your project, organization, or Dashboard Brain scope.
- To create a canvas input, open the record in a Flowgen surface that exposes the canvas-use action.
Key ideas
- Preview the record and its individual assets: The record detail view exposes its body, typed fields, references, history and related records. Supported media references and media fields can open an asset preview; the record’s reusable field content is separate from a thumbnail or cached preview.
- Use is part-based: The record header’s Use menu lists non-empty fields and enabled references. Text parts copy to the clipboard. Non-text parts can be added to the Flowgen canvas as typed input nodes; asset-backed references use the Brain asset path rather than a pasted preview URL.
- Use the source that matches the task: Add one field/reference when a node needs that value as an input. For a reusable flow that should let a person change the selected record later, configure a Group-owned Brain input instead of placing a one-off node.
Steps
- Open Brain from the Flowgen Library or Dashboard, browse/search for the record, and open its detail view.
- Inspect the record title, type, body, fields and References. Click a supported media preview to inspect the actual asset; unavailable formats are identified rather than represented by a stale thumbnail.
- In a Flowgen canvas, open the record’s Use menu in the header. Choose the specific field or reference you want to reuse.
- For text, Flowgen copies that part so you can paste it where needed. For an image, video, audio, document, model, or other non-text part, Add to canvas creates the corresponding persisted typed input where supported.
- Connect that input node to a compatible destination. For persistent reusable context, connect the project’s Brand fields or author a Group-owned Brain input rather than pasting a preview image or a generic whole-record blob.
What the Use menu contains
- Non-empty typed fields appear in the record type’s display order, followed by enabled references.
- Text-like content is copied; this includes text, voice, HTML, color, JSON, CSS, design-system and other textual field values.
- Media and file parts are typed as image, video, audio, document/PDF, 3D model, HDRI, or another supported input kind.
- A linked Brain asset is added through the asset-aware path, retaining its source identity instead of substituting a small preview URL.
Preview is not the source asset
- A card cover or preview is for inspection and discovery; use the field/reference action to insert the underlying part.
- An unsupported preview format can still be opened from its original file or added to the editor when its type is supported.
- If the Use menu is unavailable, the host surface may be read-only or may not own a Flowgen canvas target.
Tips
- Use a specific field such as Brand palette, Persona image, or Product reference instead of adding every record field to the canvas.
- Before wiring a 3D model or other typed asset, inspect the target node’s socket label and compatibility.
Limitations and important notes
- Copying is the action for text parts; it does not automatically create a Text node.
- Non-text insertion depends on the current host exposing a Flowgen canvas and on the part having a supported asset type.
- A preview can fail independently of the record metadata; do not treat a cached thumbnail as the full-resolution source.
Troubleshooting
I can see a record but not “Use on canvas”.
Open it from the Flowgen canvas Brain surface. Dashboard or read-only hosts may show record detail without owning a canvas insertion target.
The item copied instead of appearing on canvas.
Text parts intentionally copy. Choose a non-text field/reference for typed insertion, or create a text input node and paste the copied value.
A record preview looks correct but the inserted asset is wrong or missing.
Use the actual field or reference action, verify its source asset and type, and connect the resulting typed node. A preview image is not the original asset.
