Import and organize footage, preview it in the Source monitor, set ranges, target a track, place or overwrite clips, manage proxies, and reuse compositions.

Key ideas
- Source and Program are different viewers: Double-clicking media opens the Source monitor for inspecting the original and setting In/Out. The Program viewer always represents the active composition at the playhead.
- Bins organize; compositions structure: Nested media bins are project organization. Compositions are independently sized/timed sequences that can open in tabs or be placed as precomp layers.
- Placement follows the playhead and target track: Media lands at the current frame. In Edit, the chosen compatible target track receives the clip and the placement operation can overwrite the occupied interval rather than silently stacking it elsewhere.
Steps
- Open Project and use Import media, or choose image-sequence import when numbered stills should become one timed source.
- Create bins and nested bins, move media into them, and use breadcrumbs to navigate. Switch list/grid view as useful.
- Search by name and filter by media type or Used/Unused to find project assets.
- Double-click a source to open it in Source. Scrub it and set In and Out around the exact useful range.
- In Edit, choose or create the destination video/audio track and make it the target.
- Move the playhead to the intended start and place the source. Confirm source timing and any overwritten target interval before continuing.
- Use the asset usage list before removing or replacing media. Relink missing originals or create/enable a proxy when the source is heavy.
- Create another composition for a delivery shape or sequence. Open it as a tab, or place it in a parent as a precomposition.
- When duplicating a composition, choose whether nested precomps stay shared or become independent; Option/Alt-drag a composition onto a precomp strip to replace its source.

Media durability
- Imported originals can be persisted into the project by the host.
- A Flowgen card warns when its composition still contains transient browser media; use Save media to project before sharing or closing.
- Relink changes the original backing asset. A proxy is an editable playback aid and can be toggled without replacing the original.
Tips
- Set source In/Out before placement so a rough cut contains only useful material.
- Name bins and compositions by editorial role or delivery shape rather than by file extension.
Limitations and important notes
- Removing a bin promotes its contents; it is not a bulk-delete shortcut.
- Proxy availability depends on the host runtime and imported asset.
- Replacing a precomp source preserves the receiving strip; it does not merge both compositions.
Troubleshooting
Placed media went onto the wrong track.
Select a compatible target track before placing and check the highlighted target state.
The Flowgen composition works now but may not survive reload.
Use Save media to project until the transient-media warning clears.
