Open the same complete node catalog from three places, insert at a canvas point, and use typed connection suggestions or direct source controls without creating cycles.
Where: Left rail → Add, the plus beside the collapsed Make bar, or press Tab/double-click empty canvas.

- One catalog, three shells: The left Add tab, compact plus button, and point menu all render the canonical Add-node menu.
- Point insertion is spatial: Tab or an empty-canvas double-click opens search at the pointer and the selected node lands at that point.
- Compatibility comes from sockets: Dropping a connection on empty canvas ranks valid consumers or producers from the real input/output schema and excludes cycles.
Steps
- Press Tab over empty canvas, double-click empty canvas, or open Add from the left rail.
- Search the catalog; the point menu autofocuses search and Escape closes it.
- If a group is the target, confirm the heading says Add Node to Group before choosing a node.
- Drag an output noodle onto empty canvas to see compatible downstream nodes, or begin from an input to find compatible sources.
- Choose a suggested node; Flowgen inserts it and makes the compatible connection.
- Open an input connection picker to choose Type text, Paste a link, Upload a file, Pick from Assets, or Connect a node when that type supports it.
- Use Show on card and Card width to control an exposed input, or Disconnect/Replace when correcting a source.
- Run, Cancel, Retry, or Done from the picker only when those actions are available for that node state.
Connection rules
- Normal text favors prompt inputs over skill or review sockets.
- QA verdicts prioritize Route and approval workflows.
- Files are classified from extension and MIME, including .md and .markdown.
- Raw HTML is not a general-purpose file URL: connect an HTML canvas output or use the Assets-specific path.
Tips
- Use the connection drop menu when you know the data you have but not the next node.
- Use the left Add tab for browsing; it remains open while you place several nodes.
Limitations and important notes
- Only type-compatible, cycle-safe connections appear.
- Some context transforms, including AI Editor and Video Layer Compose, are connection suggestions rather than primary Add entries.
Troubleshooting
A node does not appear in the connection menu.
Check direction, socket type, existing capacity, and whether the connection would create a cycle.
