Let people choose aspect ratio, resolution, and video duration from a group’s form without opening its internal nodes. Add the controls to a step-by-step wizard, a prompt form, or both; each answer updates the original generation node.
Where: Select a group → Group settings → How it asks → Edit step-by-step or Edit prompt form → Add → Node settings.
Before you start
- Use a group containing a Gen Image, Video Generation, or Video Extend node. Nodes inside nested groups are included too.
- Give generators clear names so you can identify which node each setting controls.
- Expose at least one normal group input, such as a prompt, to access How it asks and the form-editing buttons in the sidebar.
Key ideas
- Settings become form questions: An aspect ratio, resolution, or duration control edits a setting already owned by the generator. It does not need a new input socket or a wire.
- The model determines the choices: The form offers the same supported values as the native node. Changing the model, generation mode, or connected reference media can change which choices are available.
- The starting value belongs to the node: Starting value and answers update the interior node’s saved setting. Other controls for that same node use the same current value.
- Both surfaces can be enabled: Prompt based and Step by step wizard have independent editable layouts. Add a setting to each surface where you want it to appear.
Steps
- Select the group and open Group settings in the sidebar. Under How it asks, enable Step by step wizard, Prompt based, or both.
- Choose Edit step-by-step for wizard pages or Edit prompt form for the prompt bar.
- Open Add in the page or form area where the control should appear. Under Node settings, choose the generator’s named Aspect ratio, Resolution, or Duration entry.
- Move the control into the desired order. On a wizard, place it on the appropriate page; on a prompt form, place it in the desired area and row.
- Open the setting’s Edit control. Set its Label, choose a Starting value, and optionally add Guidance under it to explain the choice.
- Repeat for the other settings people should choose. If both surfaces are enabled, edit the second layout separately to add the controls there too.
- Choose Done to leave design mode. Use the form to select a value, then inspect the interior node to confirm its setting has changed.
- Review the selected model and generation estimate before running. Adding a setting or choosing a value does not start generation.
Which settings can you expose?
- Gen Image: Aspect ratio and Resolution.
- Video Generation: Aspect ratio, Resolution, and Duration when the selected model and inputs allow them.
- Video Extend: Aspect ratio, Resolution, and Duration using that node’s extension rules. Its duration choices can differ from normal generation.
- Other node types and settings such as seed, audio generation, or image count are not included in this feature.
Example: let people choose the video output
For a group with a video generator, add a page named Output settings. Place that generator’s Duration and Resolution controls on it, rename Duration to Clip length, and choose a supported starting value. Add guidance such as “Choose a short clip for a social post.” If the group also has a prompt form, add the same node settings to that layout. An answer changes the generator that will produce the clip.
When a setting is controlled by the node
- Some video edits inherit length, aspect ratio, or resolution from the source clip. The form cannot override a setting owned by the current source or model.
- An already placed control remains visible with “Controlled by the node” and an explanation when it becomes unavailable. An unavailable setting is disabled in the Add menu.
- If only one value is supported, the form displays it with a disabled picker because there is no alternative to choose.
- After a model change, an unsupported saved choice shows a supported fallback. Review the displayed value and select a supported choice before running.
Reusing and changing the group
- Copying the group remaps settings to its copied interior nodes, including page placements, prompt-bar placements, labels, and guidance.
- Removing a generator also removes its setting controls from the resolved form.
- Removing a setting from the form removes its placement; it does not delete the generator or reset the generator’s saved value.
Tips
- Expose only the settings your audience needs. A short Output settings page is easier to use than a form containing every internal control.
- Use practical labels such as Clip length or Output size, and put the tradeoff in the guidance.
- Test the form after switching models. Available values can change, including which controls are fixed or owned by the source.
Limitations and important notes
- Settings are placed explicitly; enabling a wizard does not add them automatically.
- Wizard pages and prompt-form layouts are authored separately, even though answers update the same node.
- The choices are model-specific. A form cannot make an unsupported ratio, resolution, or duration available.
- This article describes group forms on the Flowgen canvas. A published Mini App or custom frontend is a separate surface.
Troubleshooting
How it asks or the editing buttons are missing.
Expose at least one regular group input, then enable Step by step wizard or Prompt based in Group settings.
The generator is missing from Node settings.
Check that it is inside this group or a nested group and uses one of the supported image or video node types. A deleted or unrelated node is not offered.
A setting is missing from Add but already appears on the form.
Add omits settings already placed on that surface. Move or edit the existing control rather than adding it again.
Duration or another control is disabled.
Read the explanation and check the selected model, video mode, and source media. A source-controlled setting or a setting with only one supported value cannot offer a different choice.
The old resolution is no longer available.
A model change may have narrowed the supported choices. Review the fallback shown by the control and choose a supported value.
A setting appears in the wizard but not in the prompt form.
The surfaces have independent layouts. Open Edit prompt form and place the setting there as well.
FAQ
Does choosing a setting run the generator?
No. It changes the node’s saved configuration. Generation begins only when you use the appropriate Run action.
Can I expose a setting without creating a socket?
Yes. Native settings are form controls bound directly to the interior node, so they do not need new exposed sockets or wires.
Can I choose a default without expanding the group?
Yes. Edit the placed control and choose its Starting value. That updates the same setting the interior node uses.
