Export a video project as MP4/WebM or audio from the current Video menu, tune output quality and advanced encoding when needed, and understand the desktop-renderer requirement.
Where: Video project → Top bar → Video menu → Export Video. — Open the Export Video dialog; there is no current ⌘⇧E shortcut for this action.
Before you start
- Finish scene order, duration, audio, captions, and the breakpoint/aspect ratio you intend to deliver.
Key ideas
- Export is a menu action: Open VideoPublishMenu from the video project top bar and choose Export Video. Do not rely on an old keyboard shortcut from prior editor builds.
- Basic and advanced settings: The dialog covers format, quality, FPS, render target, resolution, audio and captions, with an advanced encoding panel for codec-specific tuning.
- The desktop renderer is required: The video export renderer requires the f0 desktop app; the menu also exposes presentation publishing and audio export as separate actions.
Steps
- Open the intended video project and choose Top bar → Video → Export Video.
- Choose MP4/H.264 or WebM/VP9, then pick Draft/Standard/High quality and the required FPS.
- Select the base breakpoint, a specific breakpoint, or all sequentially, and choose source, preset, or custom output dimensions.
- Set Include Audio and master gain, and enable Burn Captions only when captions should be rendered into the picture.
- Open advanced encoding only when you need to control CRF/bitrate, GOP, color/HDR, or audio settings; keep the defaults for a normal delivery.
- Confirm the f0 desktop app is available, start the render, and inspect/download the completed output.
- Use the neighboring Video menu actions for Publish Presentation or Export Audio; they are different deliverables from the movie export.
Video export controls
- Format: MP4 (H.264) or WebM (VP9).
- Quality: Draft, Standard, or High; FPS: 24, 30, or 60.
- Render target can be the base, one selected breakpoint, or all sequentially; output size can be source, 480p–4K presets, or custom dimensions.
- Audio can be included with master gain; captions can be burned into the video.
- Advanced encoding includes CRF/bitrate, GOP, color/HDR, and audio options.
Separate menu actions
- Publish Presentation creates a shareable web presentation.
- Export Video renders the movie and requires the desktop app.
- Export Audio mixes timeline audio into supported audio formats.
Tips
- Render a short representative section before a long or 4K final.
- Burned captions cannot be disabled by the viewer; keep captions separate when the destination supports subtitle tracks.
Limitations and important notes
- Video export requires the f0 desktop renderer.
- A burned caption is part of the video picture and is not separately editable after export.
- Export options vary by the selected format/target and current project.
Troubleshooting
The result has the wrong crop or aspect ratio
Reopen Export and confirm both the render target breakpoint and output width/height; changing only one may not select the intended composition.
