Scene3D in the website editor and the native Video Editor uses the same 3D scene runtime. You can create text directly as 3D geometry, or convert a supported 2D text layer in a video composition. Both routes keep the result editable.
Add native 3D text
- Open the Scene3D workspace and use the scene outliner’s Add object (+) → 3D text.
- Select the text object and edit its words, size, extrusion depth, bevel size and bevel thickness in its Properties.
- Use the normal mesh controls for alignment/transform, materials and material layers, shadows, modifiers and transform animation.
- Helvetiker is bundled. To use another typeface, import an outline font in TTF, OTF or WOFF format. WOFF2 outline decoding is not supported.
Convert Video Editor text into 3D
- Select a text layer in the Video Editor and open its Text properties.
- Choose Convert to 3D text, then Edit scene to work on the native text mesh and its materials.
- The conversion keeps the layer identity, timing and layer transform keys. The mesh is centered in the layer. Use Restore original 2D text to return to the retained original text source.
What can convert
Conversion is intentionally limited to static, unwrapped text with a solid fill. Existing layer transform animation remains supported. If the source relies on text animators, counters, caption timing, text paths, stroke, tracking, contextual shaping or right-to-left layout, the conversion is blocked instead of silently discarding that behavior. Keep it 2D or simplify it before trying again.
Using the agent or MCP
In an open Scene3D scope, discover the live edit_scene schema before adding a native text mesh (nodeType:"mesh", geometry:"text", and textGeometry) or updating it with setText. The Video Editor conversion and restore actions are native editor controls: use the live editor/compositor tool schema if available, and do not assume a generic MCP conversion command exists. Verify the supported typography before converting.
Good to know
- After conversion, 3D text is a real mesh, so its materials, lighting, depth and geometry behave like other scene objects.
- The 2D source is retained for the explicit restore action; conversion does not mean every 2D text feature has an equivalent in 3D.
- Review the result in the scene viewport and in the target website or video preview before delivery.
