Open the native Video Editor from Flowgen for clip editing, audio, compositing, motion graphics, masks/effects/tracking, recording, 3D Worlds, AI, and portable or rendered output.
Where: Flowgen → Add node → Compose → Video Editor. — Connect sources, open video editor, edit, then route Editable Composition to Video Render.
Key ideas
- Native editor, not the retired quick compositor: Video Editor now opens the full same-window native NLE/compositor. The old Konva-stage workflow and renderVideo/renderImageSequence editor buttons no longer describe this node.
- Five inputs and two outputs: layer_in, audio_in, composition_in, matte_in, and design_system_in build or update the document. compose_out is rendered-composition compatibility; composition_out carries the editable native composition.
- Edit and Composite workspaces: Edit owns tracks, source ranges, cuts, trims, slip/roll/slide, ripple delete, transitions and audio timing. Composite owns layers, properties, masks, mattes, effects, tracking, text/shapes, keyframes, graphs, presets, precomps and 3D.
- Durable Flowgen lifecycle: The card previews frame one, reports layers/size/duration, persists edits into node data, offers Save media to project for transient originals, and stops on an upstream/local revision conflict rather than overwriting.
Steps
- Add Video Editor and connect layers/audio or an existing native composition; optionally connect a matte and design system.
- Choose the Matte target when matte_in is connected.
- Open video editor, assemble footage in Edit, then author visual layers/motion/3D in Composite.
- Use Media, Assets, Captions, Design system, Recording, or AI from Project tools as needed.
- Save transient media to the project and resolve any upstream/local draft conflict before sharing.
- Connect composition_out to Video Render composition_in or Image Sequence composition_in, choose the delivery target/settings, and run it.
- For external MCP, use flowgen_open_compositor → flowgen_invoke_compositor_tool → flowgen_close_compositor; never use the iframe document surface for this node.
Card properties and surfaces
- First-frame preview and Open video editor
- Layer count, width × height, duration, native badge
- Matte target picker
- Migration/input/save/collaboration warnings
- Discard local draft and use upstream when explicitly chosen
- Save media to project
Editor depth
- Project/Source media browser with nested bins, proxies, relink and reusable compositions
- NLE tracks plus Composite layers/keyframes/graph
- Text, shape, gradient, effect, mask, matte and tracking inspectors
- Screen-recording workspace
- Standalone 3D scenes and shared 3D Worlds
- Native AI with project/media/design-system/review tools
- MP4, WebM, PNG sequence and portable JSON export
Tips
- Keep composition_out connected when downstream work should remain editable.
- Use Work area for short review exports before a full delivery render.
Limitations and important notes
- The node is not runnable like an AI generator; editing happens in its native surface.
- A card preview is only the first frame.
- Transient browser assets must be saved to the project for durable collaboration.
Troubleshooting
Old instructions mention Konva or renderVideo.
Those instructions are retired. Open the native Video Editor and deliver through Export or the downstream Video Render/Image Sequence node.
MCP cannot find a document iframe.
Use the dedicated same-window compositor lifecycle: flowgen_open_compositor and flowgen_invoke_compositor_tool.
FAQ
What's the difference between Layer Compose and Video Compose?
Layer Compose renders a single still image; Video Compose is timeline-based with a duration and audio input and renders a video or image sequence.
Can I add a soundtrack?
Yes — connect an audio source to the Audio Input handle; audio layers have no visual and are mixed into the rendered video.
