Create named checkpoints, inspect automatic and named backups, and restore the stored project from its dashboard menu. Dashboard restore is a whole-project replacement and is blocked while active collaborators could overwrite it.

Before you start
- You need mutation access to the project.
- Ask collaborators to close the project before restoring from the dashboard.
Key ideas
- Named checkpoints: Add a labeled backup before a risky change or milestone.
- Automatic snapshots: The restore browser separates automatic snapshots from named backups and orders the newest first.
- Whole-project restore: A dashboard restore replaces the stored project or Flowgen canvas blob; it is not a selective element, page, node, or asset merge.
- Collaboration safety: A detached dashboard restore is refused while live peers are editing because their older document could sync back over the restored file.
Steps
- Open the project card menu and choose Add a backup before a risky edit; give the checkpoint a recognizable name.
- For an extra portable recovery point, download the project file from the same card menu.
- Choose Restore from backup to open the backup browser.
- Use All, Named, or Automatic to find the intended snapshot and verify its timestamp and label.
- Make sure no collaborator has the project open. Wait for the live-session warning to clear.
- Choose Restore on the snapshot and wait for the success confirmation.
- Open the project after the detached restore so the editor clears stale local state and loads the restored version.
Dashboard versus in-editor restore
Dashboard restore replaces the stored blob while no document is open in that tab. An in-editor restore can be applied as a forward edit to the live document. The safety rules differ because a detached replacement can be overwritten by an older active collaboration session.
Format-specific storage
- Website/video projects restore their stored project.fmo content.
- Flowgen restores the mediaGenProject.fmo canvas snapshot.
- Embedded doc-mode history is routed through the document backup bridge rather than a phantom project Storage path.
What restore does not do
- It does not merge chosen pages or elements.
- It does not restore only one Flowgen node.
- It does not remove the need to republish or re-export an artifact created before the restore.
Tips
- Name checkpoints with the milestone and intent, such as “Before CMS migration”.
- Download the current project before restoring when you may need to compare or recover both states.
Limitations and important notes
- Restore availability depends on permissions and an existing snapshot.
- A restored source project does not automatically replace an already published site, deck, marketplace snapshot, or downloaded export.
- The dashboard path must wait for active collaborators; use the open editor’s history flow when appropriate.
Troubleshooting
Restore is disabled because someone is editing
Ask collaborators to close the project and wait for the roster to clear. Do not force a detached overwrite while a live session can sync the old state back.
The restored project still looks current
Close other tabs, reopen the project from the dashboard, and confirm you selected the intended project and timestamp.
