The timeline animates your design. In Focus it’s a beginner NLE with clip lanes; in Studio it’s an after-effects-style editor with layers, keyframes, and a graph editor.
Where: Top bar → Timeline toggle — Open the timeline panel
Key ideas
- Focus timeline: Lanes (Video/Overlay/Text/FX/Voice/Music/Captions), drag to move/trim clips, Motion presets, Split, transitions.
- Studio timeline: Layer tree, per-property keyframes, graph editor, recording, snap, stops, precomp breadcrumbs, FPS + duration.
Steps
- Open the timeline from the top bar.
- In Focus: add clips, drag/trim, apply Motion presets and transitions.
- In Studio: expand layers, add keyframes, refine easing in the graph editor.
Choose Focus for editorial timing
- Work in named clip lanes for video, overlays, text, effects, voice, music, and captions.
- Move, trim, split, and transition clips directly.
- Apply Motion presets without exposing every animated property.
Choose Studio for property animation
- Expand the element/layer tree and keyframe individual properties.
- Record changes, snap in time, adjust FPS/duration, and navigate precompositions.
- Use the graph editor to shape speed and easing between keyframes.
Tips
- Block the edit in Focus first, then switch to Studio only for shots that need property-level control.
- Keep voice/music/caption lanes separate so timing changes remain understandable.
