Trimming & splitting clips

Layer strips can be moved and trimmed by dragging; the razor/split tool cuts a layer or track at the playhead so you can retime parts independently.

Where: Studio timeline → layer strips — Drag a strip / use the razor (C) or split (⌘⇧D)

Key ideas

• Move & trim: Drag a strip to shift it in time; drag its edges to trim (media layers).
• Razor / split: The razor tool (C) cuts at the cursor; ⌘⇧D splits at the playhead.
• Scrub: Drag the playhead to scrub the composition.

Steps

1. Switch to the Select tool (V) to move/trim, or the Razor (C) to cut.
2. Drag a strip to move it; drag an edge to trim.
3. Position the playhead and press ⌘⇧D to split.
