Connect a background image, foreground layer, optional matte, and source-backed instruction; choose a supported image model and review the generated composite.
Where: Flowgen → Add → Image & Vector → Adjust → Combine with AI.
Before you start
- Provide one background image and one foreground image. A matte is optional.
- For MCP/Agent-authored flows, keep the instruction in a connected Text source or the linked project Brand’s compatible field; do not write prompt prose into arbitrary node properties.
Key ideas
- Inputs describe distinct roles: background_in is the image to preserve/build on, overlay_in is the foreground layer to place, and mask_in optionally constrains the edit. text_in carries instructions and image_out emits the resulting still.
- Model choice changes the operation: The card currently offers Nano Banana 2 and GPT Image 2 Edit. These are image models; this node does not composite a video layer.
- The output is a new image: The source images remain upstream. The generated image can feed another image edit, a design/editor asset input, or a compatible output node.
- Combine with AI card: AiCombineNode uses the authored shared-card path. Use a background image, a foreground image, an optional matte, and a connected instruction source to generate one composite image.
- Properties sidebar: NodePropertiesPanel.tsx
- Opened surfaces: Image preview/lightbox; model picker
Steps
- Add Combine with AI and connect the image to preserve to Background and the subject/object to place to Top layer.
- If you have a mask, connect it to Matte. A mask constrains the editable region; it is not a third image layer.
- Create or select a connected Text source for the instructions. State the placement, scale, lighting/shadow relationship, and what must stay unchanged. If those instructions already live in the project Brand, bind the exact compatible Brand field instead.
- Choose Nano Banana 2 or GPT Image 2 Edit in the model control. Confirm both source chips are populated and the Text source is connected to the intended prompt input.
- Review the quoted cost and request the run only after the inputs and instruction are correct. The Combine action is unavailable while the prompt is empty or a run is in progress.
- Inspect the generated image preview and use the result/version controls to compare attempts. Connect image_out to the next image-consuming node.
Card and input contract
- Card: prompt editor, model picker, result stage, error state, and Combine action.
- Inputs: Background image; Top layer image; optional Matte; Text instructions.
- Output: Image. There is no video output and the node does not modify either input image in place.
- The selected node’s shared properties surface exposes source wiring; use the actual input handles rather than connecting to the card body.
Writing a useful composite instruction
- Name which object comes from the top layer and where it should appear in the background.
- Describe relative size, perspective, lighting, contact shadow, and occlusion only where those changes are desired.
- Say what must remain unchanged in the background. Use the matte to delimit the allowed edit when you have one.
- Keep instructions reusable and reviewable in a connected Text source or the linked Brand, instead of duplicating project copy in hidden MCP properties.
Combine with AI controls and presets
- Add path: Flowgen → Add → Image & Vector → Adjust → Combine with AI.
- Card: AiCombineNode.
- Properties: NodePropertiesPanel.tsx.
- Controls: Background image; Top layer image; optional matte; connected Text instructions; Nano Banana 2 or GPT Image 2 Edit; quote/run/result history.
- Opened surfaces: Image preview/lightbox; model picker.
Tips
- Use a clean foreground cutout when precise object boundaries matter.
- Keep unrelated creative direction out of this node; upstream sources make the prompt easier to inspect and reuse.
Limitations and important notes
- The node generates a still image, not a video composite.
- A matte is optional; it does not replace the background or foreground image inputs.
- Model availability and pricing can change; check the live model picker and quote for the current project.
Troubleshooting
Combine is disabled.
Check that an instruction is present and no run is already in progress. Then confirm the background and overlay are connected to the correct image fields.
The wrong image was edited or placed.
Inspect the named input chips and wires: the preserved image belongs on Background; the source object belongs on Top layer.
The result changes too much of the background.
Connect a suitable Matte and state the preservation constraint explicitly in the connected instruction.
