Connect a clip and optionally a Text source, choose whether captions are shown, then render a captioned video or pass through the original when captions are off.
Where: Flowgen → Add → Video & Motion → AI Edit → Video Captions.
Before you start
- Connect a source clip to Video.
- For authored caption copy, connect a Text source to Caption text; this keeps wording visible in the graph.
Key ideas
- Text source takes precedence: A connected nonblank text_in value overrides the local card caption field. For Flowgen MCP/Agent work, use a connected Text source or the linked Brand’s compatible field rather than inserting text into node properties.
- Visibility is a render switch: Show captions controls whether captions are burned into the output. When captions are hidden, the render path passes through the source video.
- Blank text enables transcription: When captions are enabled but no caption text is supplied, the operation can transcribe speech automatically. Review the result for names, punctuation, and timing.
- Video Captions card: VideoUtilityCard uses the authored shared-card path. Add supplied or automatically transcribed captions to a connected clip and render a new video.
- Properties sidebar: Card-owned caption controls; common properties shell
- Opened surfaces: Video preview/player; caption text source
Steps
- Add Video Captions and connect a clip to Video.
- For supplied copy, add a Text source and connect it to Caption text. Check that the Text source chip lands on text_in.
- Turn Show captions on. If the Text source is blank or absent, the node can use automatic transcription instead.
- Review the card preview and caption text. Check spelling, punctuation, line breaks, and whether the copy matches the spoken content.
- Choose Render captions and wait for the output. Connect video_out to another video node or export stage.
- If you deliberately turn Show captions off, understand that the rendered output passes through without burned-in captions.
Card and socket contract
- Video input and Video output carry the clip.
- Caption text is a typed Text input; connected text overrides the editable local caption field.
- Show captions is a card checkbox and defaults off.
- The preview player shows the source/output; Render captions reports progress and errors.
Caption copy workflow
- Use one connected Text node for reusable/editable caption wording.
- For a linked Brand value, inspect the actual Brand properties and connect a compatible field; do not guess a field key.
- If automatic transcription is used, proofread proper nouns, numbers, punctuation, and line timing before delivery.
- Use Video Editor when the captions need timeline-level layout or styling beyond this node’s caption operation.
Video Captions controls and presets
- Add path: Flowgen → Add → Video & Motion → AI Edit → Video Captions.
- Card: VideoUtilityCard.
- Properties: Card-owned caption controls; common properties shell.
- Controls: Video input; connected caption text; Show captions; optional transcription; render progress/result.
- Opened surfaces: Video preview/player; caption text source.
Tips
- Run a short representative clip first when checking language or transcription quality.
- Keep Show captions enabled while evaluating the result; otherwise the output can look unchanged by design.
Limitations and important notes
- Captions that are burned into the video are not independent editable subtitle tracks.
- Automatic transcription can mishear speech; it requires human review.
- The card currently exposes local text entry, but assistant-authored flow data should remain source-connected per the Flowgen source policy.
Troubleshooting
My connected caption wording is ignored.
Confirm the Text wire reaches Caption text/text_in and contains nonblank text; then verify Show captions is enabled.
The render contains no captions.
Turn on Show captions. When it is off, the utility passes through the source clip.
Transcribed words are wrong.
Connect reviewed Text or correct the wording, then render again and inspect the full clip.
