Scrub a connected clip, set its kept start and end at the playhead, review the selected range, and render or download the trimmed video.
Where: Flowgen → Add → Video & Motion → AI Edit → Trim Video; select the node to open its properties sidebar.
Before you start
- Connect a video to Video and wait for its duration and player to load.
Key ideas
- The range is stored in seconds: The UI also displays frame-aware timecode using the detected source frame rate. If frame-rate detection fails, the range remains valid in seconds and the display uses a fallback rate.
- The sidebar is the range workspace: The card shows a compact preview and range strip; Edit trim range opens the scrub player and frame strip where you set the start or end at the playhead.
- Rendering is separate from selecting: Changing the range does not alter the source clip. Render trim creates a new video output that can be previewed or downloaded.
- Trim Video card: VideoUtilityCard uses the authored shared-card path. Set frame-aware start and end points for a connected video, preview the kept range, and render/download the trimmed clip.
- Properties sidebar: VideoTrimPanel.tsx
- Opened surfaces: Video frame picker; trim range strip; Edit trim range workspace; download
Steps
- Connect the clip and select Trim Video to open its properties sidebar.
- Choose Edit trim range. Scrub the source player or frame strip to the point where the kept section should begin.
- Choose Set start at playhead. Move to the last frame/time to keep and choose Set end at playhead.
- Read the range summary and inspect both boundaries. The range must have a valid positive duration within the source clip.
- Choose Render trim. The card reports progress and then previews the result; use Download in the inspector when you need a local file.
- Connect the video output to a caption, overlay, editor, or final delivery node as needed.
Where controls live
- Card: connected clip preview, trim-range strip, time/range summary, and Render trim action.
- Inspector: current range summary, Edit trim range workspace, scrub player, frame strip, Set start/Set end at playhead, render status, and Download for a completed output.
- The player’s frame rate is detected from the clip for frame labels/stepping; trim boundaries are persisted as seconds.
- The source video is retained upstream; rendering produces a distinct output.
Range validation
- Start must be before End.
- The chosen range must lie inside the connected clip’s available duration.
- If the range is invalid, the node explains why and disables Render rather than silently rendering a different section.
- Audio is preserved through the trim operation when present in the source.
Trim Video controls and presets
- Add path: Flowgen → Add → Video & Motion → AI Edit → Trim Video.
- Card: VideoUtilityCard.
- Properties: VideoTrimPanel.tsx.
- Controls: Video input; scrub player; frame strip; set start/end at playhead; range validation; render; download.
- Opened surfaces: Video frame picker; trim range strip; Edit trim range workspace; download.
Tips
- Use the frame strip for exact action boundaries, then play just before and after both cuts.
- Leave a little handle around speech or motion when another node will add captions or transitions.
Limitations and important notes
- This node trims one connected clip; use a compositor/editor for multi-clip assembly.
- A failed frame-rate probe changes the frame readout fallback, not the seconds-based range.
- The source remains unchanged; use the rendered output downstream.
Troubleshooting
Edit trim range is disabled.
Connect a video and wait for the player source to become available.
Render trim is disabled after setting the range.
Check the range summary: set Start before End and keep both values within the clip duration.
I cannot see the rendered clip.
Check the card result preview and inspector status; use Download only after the render completes.
